free tiger bus

2010 Gold PICA - Design on material other than paper

2010 Gold PICA - Signage

The free tiger bus is a free CBD bus service. The local council initiative aimed to reduce carparking and vehicular congestion in the CBD; and showcase sustainable Launceston City Council objectives. The branding and concept had to appeal to both local everyday users and visitors. The tasmanian tiger is the current Launceston City Council brand icon, and was considered appropriate to build on and strengthen as a brand for the organisation as it has local and visitor appeal.

The project consisted of the design for:

• bus wrap

• bus shelters

• poles and blades

• pedestrian wayfinding signage

• vehicular wayfinding signage

Our concept focused on utilising the tasmanian tiger skin markings in an authentic way. The graphic power of using authentic markings rather than ‘guessed’ or stylised graphics has been so positive the LCC has now taken this initiative and briefed other designers to follow on with this authentic tiger graphic.

The super graphic of an entire bus scaled tasmanian tiger has found great public support and the service gained instant recognition with wide spread regular usage, in this instance bold graphics and brand evolution has exceded LCC expectations and the clients desired outcomes.
