j boag & son brewhouse Interpretation

2010 Gold PICA - Design on material other than paper

2010 Gold PICA - Signage

Breweries today tend not to take visitors through their operating industrial areas. It is an incredible tribute to J. Boag and Son that they have not only taken on the brewery tour as a key part of their heritage interpretation and visitor experience but continue to improve and expand the guided experience and safety for visitors.

Within the Brewery tour the recently constructed new brewhouse features a 25m long x 3m high Interpretation wall. Two storylines have been grafted together revealing and explaining on the one hand how the heart of the brewery magically draws together three natural products, water, grains and hops, to make the beer, and on the hand every staff member is presented and a feature story explains how the longest serving member of staff started life as the pie boy and now manages brewing operations 35 years on. This technique of woven interpretive stories not only builds brand strength but also increases employee moral by recognizing the individual and the team effort praised within by Boags and a part of the brand and its rich heritage.
