description: World Heritage Listed Cascades Female Factory is Australia’s most significant site associated with the female convict story. Between 1788 and 1853, 25,000 women were transported to Australia for their crimes. Approximately half came to Van Dieman’s Land.
Birrelli were contracted to provide interpretation services within the project team (others being Sue Small Landscape Architects and Port Arthur Historic Sites Management Authority) to vision the storylines and history from the 1852 period of the Cascades Female Factory and develop the interpretation components.
